Alternatives to linishing/grinding

Alternatives to linishing/grinding

Alternatives to linishing/grinding

(OP)
My company currently uses linishing machines and fein die grinders to clear excess braze and inaccuracies in material joins. The joins are similar to that of a seam weld but have only around 1mm of material to remove at most.

This process is very labour intensive and causes the problematic 'white finger'. We have also tried using bead blasting but the process is too slow.

Does anyone have any other methods which may be faster and less labour intensive?

Note: The parent metal is a high carbon steel and the braze comprizes 80%copper.

Cheers

RE: Alternatives to linishing/grinding

I've been taught (perhaps wrongly) that one should avoid removing material from a pressure-containing braze joint.  I'd think a smarter approach than finding a better grinding wheel would be to work on ways to control the braze process (using preforms, controlling flux application, controlling part tolerances, fixturing, heat control...) to minimize/avoid excess braze or spatter.

RE: Alternatives to linishing/grinding

Don't deposit metal that you have to remove later.

Use preforms or anti-flux to put the braze metal only where it needs to be.
