Urgent: SN-curve for AISI 4140 Steel needed ASAP

Urgent: SN-curve for AISI 4140 Steel needed ASAP

Urgent: SN-curve for AISI 4140 Steel needed ASAP

(OP)
Hello all,

I have an urgent need to find S-N data on AISI 4140 steel. The data I have does not extend to low enough cycles.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks, metengr. Unfortunately that's the data I've already had. Since then I've found the AISI's Steel Bar Fatigue Database, which has 4140 data. Unfortunately they only appear to have quenched and tempered data, and I'm unsure if it's appropriate for the material in question (normalized at 850C and air cooled). Any insight?

Borodog;
I was going to recommend the Steel Bar Fatigue database earlier because I have similar access. However, you did not mention the heat treatment condition of the 4140 earlier because using the  stress life (S/N) approach, strength has a direct effect on the shape and magnitude of the S/N curve.

So, what you need is stress-life fatigue data for normalized 4140 alloy steel. Let me see what I can find in my reference material.

Borodog;
You might want to try this site, it is called eFatigue. Dr. Socie from the University of Illinois developed the site. I used to have free access. Dr. Socie has developed a large fatigue properties database, and could be what you need for your project.

You can get some papers of Dr. Basan and reduce/regress the material data you need based on different hardness:

Robert Basan, Domagoj Rubeša, Marina Franulović, Božidar Križan: A novel approach to the estimation of strain life fatugue paramaters Procedia Engineering 2 (2010) (= P. LUKÁŠ (Hrsg.): Fatigue 2010: Proc. of the 10th Int. Fatigue Congress held in Prague, June 6-11, 2010): 417-426
