Belt Conveyor Volumetric capacity

Belt Conveyor Volumetric capacity

Belt Conveyor Volumetric capacity

(OP)
I am doing a preliminary analysis on increasing the capacity of a troughed belt conveyor. I have an older copy of of the CEMA standard (5th edition).  In that edition there is no discussion on how much extra volumetric capacity one should design for to account for slippage or whatever.  In the newer standard (my undestanding) there is talk about derating the capacity and using a Design Factor.

Does anybody have a rule of thumb they use for a design factor? Specifically I am conveying potash ore.

I have seen one reference for conveyors in general that states "Belt Loadings shall be 50% at design throughput with a surcharge angle of 20 degrees." To me this implies you need to design for double the capacity, which seems pretty high.
