Cold-Formed Metal Framing Specifications

Cold-Formed Metal Framing Specifications

Cold-Formed Metal Framing Specifications

(OP)
I have a fairly simple question. Most of the CFMF jobs I've done in the past have exteior CF studs and we usually specify on the drawings stud depth, gauge, and detail general ways of connections the studs to the superstructure.  We spec we develop is a performance type spec, which requires the specialty engineer to design the studs and connections, and submit shop drawings... ok simple enough

I'm working on a smaller job with only a few interior stud walls.  I'm welding some protective plating to the studs and have detailed it accordingly.  I've designed and detailed basically every aspect of the CF, but still need to issue a spec.  The only CF specs I've developed are delegated design, and that's kind of where I'm stuck.

I don't need to issue any design requirements to a specialty engineer.  The contractor can build from my drawings.  Is modifying the spec, by just deleting the design requirement sections standard for this situation?  Or do you guys generally develop a model spec that is different for a CF performance spec.

I'm probably over-thinking the situation, but I just want to make sure I don't confuse the contractors bidding on the job.

RE: Cold-Formed Metal Framing Specifications

I haven't seen your specification, so it's hard to tell if it has the right information. But if you have material grades, sizes (possibly on the drawings) and installation procedures you're probably OK.
When in a situation like this I try to look at the prject from the outside and answer two questions:
Does the specfication assure that the my design intent is implemented?
Is there enough information for the bidders to price the project?

Yep, we do it a lot on really small jobs.  Just delete all the delegated design requirements in the specification.
