Is it possible to predict yield stress and stress-strain curve?

Is it possible to predict yield stress and stress-strain curve?

Is it possible to predict yield stress and stress-strain curve?

(OP)
Hi, I'm just a newbie of ABAQUS and having hard time on it.

I want to do the tensile test of single steel beam(3D), and
also want to get the stress-strain curve(including plastic region).
Is it possible to get(predict) yield strength using
Von Mises yielding criteria without putting experimental data?

Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks!

RE: Is it possible to predict yield stress and stress-strain curve?

sure it is.
set up the material conditions (elastic coef, plasticity preferrably some other way then stress-strain), then apply force to the model  (or even better, displacement). after a certain displacement is reached, calculate the average stress in the model (it helps if it's a cylinder) and plot it against the strain in that step.

RE: Is it possible to predict yield stress and stress-strain curve?

BUT with this you only get back the curve you already know - is in the material def (via hardening, m-r law...).
it's also very good to know the basics of the python scripting and connections to the odb.
