Composite Deck to hang MEP pipes/trays

Composite Deck to hang MEP pipes/trays

Composite Deck to hang MEP pipes/trays

(OP)
In my project, MEP wanted to hang their stuff from the composite deck (3" concrete over 3" deck) using Hilti anchors, cast-in-place and/or post installed. The deck will be drilled a hole so the anchor get into the slab concrete above 3/4" or more. The maximum point load reached 500 lbs. I am not sure if it is acceptable. Hilti does have a table for their anchor capacity. But I don't know if I can use that. Vulcraft don't have too much information on that. Does anybody have an experience on this? Can yon please give me some advice? Thank you very much!

RE: Composite Deck to hang MEP pipes/trays

Check the Hilti site for the *pull-out capacity* of the anchor.  It will be dependent on the depth of embedment and the actual strength of the concrete.

Do not forget the dead driver in the 'Big Dig' tunnel.  Epoxy anchors are a lousy choice.  Essentially uninspectable, actual strength dependent on size and quality of hole, and quality/brand of epoxy *actually* used, and thoroughness of mixing, and oil removal of embedding rod, and curing temperature, etc.  One or all of the above caused a catastrophic and instantaneous failure.  You will get NO warning signs.

Use embed plates and Hilti wedge anchors for suspended loads.
