I have been testing a low cost evaportive precooler of my design to place on the typical 8,000 BTU window AC units.

In my testing I have:

1- reduce the watt draw on a dry 10%Rh 100 F day by 25% to 30%

    we draw just 650 to 700 watts on a 100F day to provide an actual 9,000 to 10,000 BTUs of cooling..I do not have a flow hood so I can not measure the mass air flow from the evaoporator coils


2- boosted the cooling by lowering the evaporative discharge temp by up to 8F typical 49 F on a 100 F day

3 typical condensing temperature before precooling would be 135F on a dry hot 100F this was lowered to just 3 to 5 f above ambient

4 I have tested this precooling on 3 seperate window Ac unit and there is no deposit of any kind on the air cooled condenser they look new after 2 summers of testing with evaporative precooling of the intake air through the condensers.

These tests were done on a R22 units with an EER of 9.8 actual EER of up to 13 after preccoling.

I wish to apply similar testing on a 30 year old 3 1/2 ton split system with a     = SEER of 7...EER of 6.2. it  draws 67000 watts with 42000 BTU

Would you expect to see a higher EER boosts for this  3 1/2 ton unit will have condenser temps of 135 to 140F at 109F ambiebt and 10% RH.

How do you think these results compairs to the FREUS water cooled condenser AC home units?
