CENELEC COLOR FOR 3 WIRE INSTRUMENTS

CENELEC COLOR FOR 3 WIRE INSTRUMENTS

CENELEC COLOR FOR 3 WIRE INSTRUMENTS

(OP)
Does anyone know what the different colors of a 3 wire instrument circuit? I have a reqmnt to use Black, Lt Blue, Brown. Which is the (+), (-)/rtn, and the Signal?

RE: CENELEC COLOR FOR 3 WIRE INSTRUMENTS

No standard for those that I know of.  We get instruments with a really wide range of color for leads.  The only common thing is black to (-) but that's not always true either.

Best to get the manufacturer's literature and look it up!

Good on ya,

Goober Dave

Did you stick the manufacturer and model number in Google?  It often is quite a bit helpful to do so...

RE: CENELEC COLOR FOR 3 WIRE INSTRUMENTS

I'm not sure if it's a true standard, but the CAT German engines (Mak) all theire three wire instruments have the smae colors and they are,

Light blue = battery positive
Brown = battery negative
Black = signal

Caused a good bit of head scratching when they showed up here in the USA.

Hope that helps,

Mike L.
