Import assembly into Teamcenter

Import assembly into Teamcenter

Import assembly into Teamcenter

(OP)
I have an ProdDef created in Teamcenter.  Locally I have a two part assembly where the parts are constrained by assembly constraints.  One part is already in Teamcenter.  I want to import that assembly as a UG data set under the item in Teamcenter.  When I do the import I select the assembly file and imports fine.

When I opened the assembly from Teamcenter (or look at the product structure) I expected the assembly to pull the mated component out of the database since it already existed in TC.  It did not.

Question is why and another is can it?  If I had a 100 piece assembly where some of the parts were already in Teamcenter and others where not, how would I import the entire thing?

NX6.0.5

Thanks...

RE: Import assembly into Teamcenter

Yes it can be done. You will have to change the Default import action for those items that already exist in teamcenter. After you add your assembly, take note of the default import action (a dropdown box on the Main tab), it will probably default to 'overwrite'. Press the exceptions button next to it and for those files already in TC change the option to Use Existing. When it prompts for the file name (during dry run or execution) point it to the TC file you want to use.
