Floating suction check cable

Floating suction check cable

(OP)
Hi All.

API 1540 specifies that 'Means of carrying out regular checks of the buoyancy of these units must be provided.' with regards to floating suctions.

Could a visual inspection of the float through the manhole be classified as complying or is a check cable mandatory? Does anyone know of any instances where a check cable has not been provided?

The supplier has provided the floating suctions without check cables, whereas I thought they were mandatory.

Thanks for all the help so far.
