thread locker and zinc-flake coatings

Are anerobic thread locking compounds effective when used with fasteners that have dip-spin or spray applied zinc-flake coatings for corrosion resistance?

RE: thread locker and zinc-flake coatings

Dip-Spin = Hot-Dip Galv, and yes it works IF the pieces are degreased, and IF the nuts are not "Blue".

The blue color is imparted from a dye put into a teflon coating.
LocTite and Teflon do not do well togather.

RE: thread locker and zinc-flake coatings

The coatings that i am referring to are not hot dip galvanized. Geomet, Magni, and Delta MKS are some of the names that I am familiar with. I think that some might have a topcoat that contains teflon for reducing the coefficient of friction, but I do not think that all have Teflon added. If they do not have Teflon in the topcoat, will loctite work with them?

RE: thread locker and zinc-flake coatings

I just looked at the Delta MKS website -- looks like an anerobic will work if the fasteners are clean, not oiled.

Why don't you ask the coater?  For the automotive applications, they have to have tested for anerobic 'grip'.

RE: thread locker and zinc-flake coatings

Thread adhesives do work with the zinc-rich coatings.  Work with 3M, Loctite and omniTECHNIK for the adhesives and NOF, Magni and Dorken for the zinc-rich coatings.
