Flange Quality vs. Firebox

Flange Quality vs. Firebox

Flange Quality vs. Firebox

(OP)
Hi Everyone:

I have seen this referenced many place an talked about, but I am still a little confused on the terminology of some older steel plate.

What is the difference between Flange quality steel and firebox steel?  I am looking at the old SA-212 specification, and it listed a Grade A and B, but says either can be made to flange quality or firebox quality.

Also, can a flange quality material be m,de with a fine grain process?  Cana  firebox material be made with a coarse grain process?

Any insight would be great!
