Blue Tapcon Capacity

Blue Tapcon Capacity

(OP)
Does anyone have published data on blue tapcon screws for attachment to clay brick?  I am trying to attach a floor joist to an existing clay brick chimney to reduce the span of the joist for additional file storage loading.  Mechanical and plumbing runs preclude me from installing secondary framing to take the 1200# load to the concrete floor.
Thanks!

RE: Blue Tapcon Capacity

Check with one of the manufacturers, but your condition might require site-specific load testing.  The shear and pullout of a Tapcon depends on several variables, most importantly the quality of the material into which it is inserted.

RE: Blue Tapcon Capacity

You might actually want to check your building code to verify if a brick chimney can carry any structural loads, other the its own weight.  You might also want to check the required clearance btwn. a chimney and any wood framing.  Tapcon cap'y. may be the least of your problems.

RE: Blue Tapcon Capacity

ITW makes them - check their website.  Whether they are any good in brick --- is debatable - but their website will tell you.

I think Hilti has one or two anchors that are designed for brick.   Check them out.

I am pretty dubious about permanent anchoring into brick.  Too much happens to it - like NO maintenance.
