protection of diesel generator cable

i have a project with 1500kVA,3.3kV diesel set, the set supplied without circuit breaker. the distance between the diesel generator and the diesel generator distribution board about 25 meters.
may i installed circuit breaker for the diesel generator and cable protection  only on the distribution board.

RE: protection of diesel generator cable

Maybe.  It is going to depend on what particular installation codes apply.  If you provide information on the location of the project, it might help.

RE: protection of diesel generator cable

On a machine of that size and value I'd install some form of unit protection to include both the machine and the cables to the generator breaker within the protected zone. If you're using a mid-range relay like a GE G650 then a restricted earth scheme is likely the best compromise between protection and cost. A stator differential relay would be even better, but stator diff. comes at a price and is normally seen only on much larger sets.
