Downloadable Assembly File...SW10

Downloadable Assembly File...SW10

Downloadable Assembly File...SW10

(OP)
Hey,

I have been searching the last 20 minutes for a way to create a downloadable assembly file for a website. The catch is that I don't want the person to be able to expand the assembly tree and be able to reverse engineer the parts. Any way to make this happen?

Thanks,

  Jake

RE: Downloadable Assembly File...SW10

Save the assy as a part with the surfaces only option.

RE: Downloadable Assembly File...SW10

Or upgrade to SW2011 or SW2012 and use the Defeature function.

@CorBlimeyLimey...How do you save with the surface only option?

RE: Downloadable Assembly File...SW10

At the bottom of the save window there will be a few options of the geometry you want to save.  Choose the exterior faces option.

Be warned that any opening to the interior will expose the interior faces, and they will also be saved.

Openings will need to be "capped" before saving if that poses a problem.

RE: Downloadable Assembly File...SW10

If you don't want any of it to be reversed engineered, don't make it downloadable. Save as eDrawing files, with the measuring tool unchecked.

E-Drawings was made for this exact reason.

Ultimately we would want our customers to be able to take our part and place it directly into their CAD model. That is why we are wanting to be able to provide the part, but not be able to have them edit it. This is why eDrawings doesn't really work for this case.

RE: Downloadable Assembly File...SW10

Suppress all internal parts in the assembly prior to saving out as a surface part.  Alternatively, save out as a solid part and then open that part... do some extrudes to fill it in or some cuts to remove proprietary details.  Save that out as a parasolid... then re-import it.  Now you will have a defeatured solid part.

Neither solution is "automatic".
