Floor Level Straightedge Equivalents

Floor Level Straightedge Equivalents

Hi all,
Is there a reference that describes a method for estimating the Floor Level Number similar to the Floor Flatness Straightedge Equivalent table given in ACI 117R-8?

I am looking at a hotel with measured floor slab slopes as high as 3% and a total relative floor level differential of about 5 inches over 200'.

The is pretty clearly beyond any reasonable specification but in speaking about it I would like to relate the floor levelness to typical published criteria for this application short of doing a statistical analysis at this time to obtain the actual FL number.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Floor Level Straightedge Equivalents

We typically specify a degree of floor flatness.  I don't know that there is an 'automatic' degree of flatness unless it is specified.

Marbles, anyone??

Haha...thanks guys. I think I found what I needed. I was looking in the 117 commentary not the spec.

In short, other than the 3/8" per 10 foot limitation on formed surfaces (4.5.3) i'm not finding much on Floor Levelness other than the ASTM E 1155 statistical method. It looks like the committee is trying to move completely away from the older straightedge method.

It would still be nice to have a recommended spec for floor levelness in different applications using the older convention (inches per 10 ft).

Thanks again.

RE: Floor Level Straightedge Equivalents

I commonly spec 1/8" over any 10 foot area.  I'm picky though.

For the floor to vary 5" over a 200 foot length is ridiculous in my opinion, and I have done flatwork.

RE: Floor Level Straightedge Equivalents

I assume these are elevated slabs, so once the formwork is pulled 117 doesn't apply any longer because structural deflections have entered the equation.

what is your ultimate goal in getting the FL number?

thanks all. at this point i am just trying to show that the slopes of the slab on grade are excessive and corroborate the other signs of settlement.
