Convert shell into solid
Convert shell into solid
(OP)
Hi all,
Basically i have a shell model and i wish to import it into Abaqus/CFD for fluid analysis, however it only accept solid model. Thus, i was thinking of thickening the surface and turn it into a solid.
Can someone advice me on how to do it or any other methods to turn it into a solid?

Maybe?

Any 1 has any suggestion on how to do this? I tried various methods (Solidworks, etc) but i just can't seem to thicken the surface and make it into a solid.

If you want to convert the whole thing into a solid you'll have to sort out your geometry problems first. If you only want to assign it a 'thickness' you may be able to get away with meshing the shell, converting to an orphan mesh and converting the shell elements to solid elements.

However, the problem i am facing now is that the part cannot be closed.
To give more info on the problem: The simulation i am hoping to do is a co-simulation with Abaqus/CFD and Abaqus/Standard.
The part i uploaded is a stent. The stent is suppose to be fitted internally into a blood vessel and the 1st step is to shrink-fit the stent into the vessel.
The 2nd step is to use Abaqus/CFD to simulate blood flow through the blood vessel and Abaqus/Standard for stress/deformation/displacement analysis on the stent as the blood flow through it.
Is there a way to "thicken" the part and make it similar to a cylinder?
