Venturi tube - Multiphase medium

Venturi tube - Multiphase medium

Venturi tube - Multiphase medium

(OP)
I have a strange enquiry for a set of Venturi tubes. The process conditions layed out describe a fluid (hydrocarbon/wet gas) whoms vapourisation pressure at process conditions is exactly the same as the process pressure. They also want the tubes designed to ISO 5167, which is impossible given the flow is not single phase throughout.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

The customer has clearly layed out vapour and liquid properties and insisted on a dualphase flow, but I've never seen a venturi enquiry like this before and like I said my initail thought was the product cannot/should not be made.

RE: Venturi tube - Multiphase medium

It wouldn't seem like a good idea, as the further reduction of pressure upon entry into the venturi would kick up the vapor output of the stream, but if their intention is to meter a maximized vapor flow, you might also ask why not, provided that the accuracy of the measurement is of small importance.

RE: Venturi tube - Multiphase medium

Venturi tubes can be used for wet gas metering, upon condition the equation reported in the ISO 5167 standard is corrected to keep into account the gas fraction.

RE: Venturi tube - Multiphase medium

I think they shouldn't be used for wet gas metering near the vapor pressure. Is ISO 5167 allowing that?  If it was wet gas above the vapor pressure where the fraction of liquid remains constant, it would be OK to do that.
