Tapered, Light Gauge Steel, Angle Columns

Tapered, Light Gauge Steel, Angle Columns

(OP)
I'm analyzing an existing metal shade structure with tapered 14 gauge steel angle columns (8" legs at the top and 3" legs at the bottom).  These columns are acting as beam columns being fixed at the top and pinned at the base.

This structure was fabricated in Dallas Texas in the 1970's.  Does anyone have information / charts/ design examples on these type elements?

Thanks

RE: Tapered, Light Gauge Steel, Angle Columns

This is a printout of a Mathcad 2000 Professional for biaxial flexocompression of tapered double tees as given in Galambos IV ed.

Quite likely the particular intricacies of members of so thin plates are not entirely well portraited in what given, but it is a start.

RE: Tapered, Light Gauge Steel, Angle Columns

Hmm, these are ANGLE columns ... no use of the printout, sorry.

On not finding tables, charts or closed form solutions I would attack the thing in FEM.
