high temperature thread sealing compound

(OP)
I need to seal a 1/2 BSP thread for a steam application.  Material is steel.  Temperatures will rise above 500C. Pressures up to 6 bar.

I am sure welding is best however I need a short term solution to keep me going.

Thanks

Whether it works or not will depend on how skillfully you apply it.  Don't overtighten- leave enough in the joint to expand and seal.

You can try grafoil tape as well.

That'll work for SMALL fittings under MODEST pressures.

That assumes that the thread is BSPT taper, not BSPP parallel.  In the later case, you need a gasket.
