NX 8 Drafting: Unable to Install Custom Symbols

NX 8 Drafting: Unable to Install Custom Symbols

NX 8 Drafting: Unable to Install Custom Symbols

(OP)
Hola!

I found the CustomSymbols.zip and Tool.zip files in C:\Program Files\Siemens\NX 8.0\UGII\symbol\install_tool\.
Following the directions for "Install custom symbol libraries in Native NX 7.5 Reuse Library" in the document User_Guide_for_Custom_Symbol_Library_Installation_Tool_v2.1.doc
I began by unzipping both files (within the install_tool\ folder as per the instructions from a supplier when I did this for NX 7.5; I'm not sure if it even matters where the files are unzipped to).
I then ran Custom_Symbol-Installation.bat.
However this time, the command window appears for barely a millisecond before disappearing, then nothing else happens.
I even selected "Run as Administrator" when running the .bat file.
According to the install document, I should have chosen the language, then read the Copyright Notice, etc, etc.

I'm also assuming that I this install for NX 7.5 will work for NX 8, and is not just an oversight.

Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do? BTW, I'm running NX 8.0.0.25, on Win7 64-bit.

Call GTAC for help on this.

RE: NX 8 Drafting: Unable to Install Custom Symbols

I have exactly the same problem that Kasey7 but I have NX7.5

I used the print screen key and I can read that is says: """C:\Program" no se reconoce como un comando interno o externo (it's not recognized like an internal or external command)

Any idea?

Well, I just got off the phone with a gentleman who helped me get the symbols library working. smile

I'm wary about about writing what I did, because there was quite a bit of stuff that we ran withing the command window that I can't remember. I don't think it matters though, as I think he was just checking to see if I had Java working.

What I will tell you though is that we had to edit the Custom_Symbol-Installation.bat file. (Refer to screen cap attached comparing the edited file with the original).

In notepad we added the lines:
JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\
JRE_HOME=%UGII_BASE_DIR%\NXJRE
...after the fifth REM statement at the top of the file.

Near the bottom, above the line:
goto END
remove the quotes ("") from "%JRE_HOME%\bin\javaw", so it reads:
%JRE_HOME%\bin\javaw

Once again, check out the screen cap I've attached comparing the changes!!! The edited bat file is on the right.

Save the edited bat file, then run it.

The other snag occurred when I ran the wizard. The NX Environment is C:\Program Files\Siemens\NX 8.0

The Custom Symbol Location is C:\Program Files\Siemens\NX 8.0\UGII\symbol\install_tool\CustomSymbols.zip

Then the Folder Structure > Install Path defaults to C:\Program Files\UGS\Symbol Library (not the Siemens folder where NX 8.0 is located.)

Use the default path that the wizard created (C:\Program Files\UGS\Symbol Library). I thought I was being smart and selected the Siemens folder instead of UGS, but it didn't seem to work.

When you select the Install button in the wizard the command window will open and you should start to see a bunch of part files being created in it. It will run for a while.

When complete, select Finish and open NX.

Go to File > Utilities > Customer Defaults > Gateway > Reuse Library > (Tab) Symbols Library

In the text window Symbol Libraries, Native NX enter:
Siemens Symbols|C:\Program Files\UGS\Symbol Library
where "Siemens Symbol" is simply any name you want to call the library as it appears within NX; and the path after | is where you earlier choose the wizard to install the library.

Finally choose OK or Apply, then exit NX.

Open NX again, and the library should now be available to you.

I hope this works for you guys. As I said at the top, there was a number of things that we did within a command window that I haven't included because I can't remember them all. sad

Anyways, if it works, then great! If not, give GTAC a call.

Good Luck! smile

RE: NX 8 Drafting: Unable to Install Custom Symbols

Hi Casey7!

Thanks a lot!!! My library is working!!!

Well, I couldn't find where Java files were and I thought that I had to install Java. But I had something else to do.

So I just removed the quotes ("") from "%JRE_HOME%\bin\javaw", so it reads: %JRE_HOME%\bin\javaw

... and what a surprise! When I double-clicked the .bat file the installation Wizard started.

Then, when it finished, I did what you said about the Customer defaults and now I finally have my library working.

Again, thanks a lot Casey7!
