Draping Requirements for Low Voltage 500 mcm 3 conductor cables

Draping Requirements for Low Voltage 500 mcm 3 conductor cables

Client is asking for existing tower modification to accept load from additional overhead conductors.  I think that In order to properly determine loads I will need to know the properties of the conductors, and how much they should drape.  I have some old guides on high voltage systems but they don't do the trick.

Cables are (3)-500 mcm copper 600 V
Span is about 100 ft
I will have to figure out ice load

Also, is there a cable producer on the web that provides a decent amount of physical property information?

Anyone?

You need to consider the coefficient of elasticity and the temperature coefficient of expansion to determine what the tension load on the deadend towers will be at minimum temperature with ice, given that you string the conductor at a warmer temperature to a particular sag.

Thread thread238-183145: How does adding weight affect Sag/Tension Calcs? has a discussion of the calculations required.

Check the NESC for loading combination.
