Multi-row carpet rack flue space requirements for high pile

Multi-row carpet rack flue space requirements for high pile

(OP)
Hi guys,

Chapter 23 Table 2308.3 requires a 6" transverse flue space for multi-row carpet rack high piled storage. I have a client that has rolled carpets stuffed in the rack bays at each level. Since rack columns are 3", he is violating the 6" flue rule. However, because carpets are so heavy and cumbersome, does anybody have an idea on what a best method would be to force the 6" flue in this case? Do they design interior barriers for things like this, or is there an alternative?

Thanks!

WOW. Exactly the type of solution I was asking about. Thanks, sk, I greatly appreciate your valuable input.
