Stroke Volume in pump

Stroke Volume in pump

(OP)
Hi Guys,

I am designing a diaphragm pump and I want to calculate stroke volume of a diaphragm pump regarding pressure,I need to have stroke volume for each pressure to calculate pump flow rates. Under diaphragm(rectangular shape)I have a pressure fluid and this fluid pushes the diaphragm up, I have amount of this pressure(under diaphragm). Actually I could not find any formula about that. Anybody knows some references for stroke volume in diaphragm pump regarding pressure?

RE: Stroke Volume in pump

What causes the pressure of the fluid under the diaphragm? A piston?

Thanks for your reply, Actually, a peristaltic pump makes that pressure.

RE: Stroke Volume in pump

O.k. That makes it tough. But anyhow your problem will be somewhere else. The first thing you need to know before you design a diaphragm is its max. stroke volume. If you have not done this, the diaphragm will probably fail.

Do you have the performance curve of the peristaltic pump (pump speed  and flow rate vs. pressure)? That would perhaps allow you to calculate the effective stroke volume of the diaphragm as the volume displaced by the peristaltic pump is equivalent to the volume which dispalces the diaphragm, unless you have a bypass somewhere between peristaltic pump and diaphragm.

RE: Stroke Volume in pump

Dear Friends,
We have a available Diaphragm pump design having a discharge capacity of 2L/hr and I want to scale it to 36g/hr(new diaphragm pump).
What parameters should i first calculate?
Please help me?
what determines the opening pressure of the suction side valve and pressure side valve(non return valve)?

Thanks in advance,
Rishi
