apply gravity

apply gravity

(OP)
Dear all,

I have a 3d model(solid elements) of a bridge embankment system and I want first of all to apply gravity and then to do pushover analysis.

Do you know how can I apply gravity (I want my model to be in the elastic range under its self weight) and then to apply a horizontal force in order to pushover analysis with NL soil properties? I mean can I define elastic properties for the self weight and then NL for the rest of the analysis?

Many thanks in advance,
O.

RE: apply gravity

Hi O,

You can apply gravity in the Load Module.
-->Load,Create,(go down in the menu) Gravity is about in the middle, and put -9810 [mm/sec] into y direction-box, if your gravity is in that way. Click OK, and you applied the G to your whole assembly.

Regards,
Mark

thank you very much for your reply!!!
What I don't understand is what type of step I should use... I mean a GEOSTATIC step or a STATIC-GENARAL step (for the analysis under the self weight)..
I have a soil volume with Mohr-Coulomb properties and I take the message: geostatic time is too large..
How can I decrease the step size, I think that I don't have this option in geostatic step...
Could you please help me???

Many many thanks,
Oly.
