small, high torque motor
small, high torque motor
(OP)
My electrical supply couldn't come up with anything on this one. I found a 24V DC brushless, 100-2500 RPM, 1/25 HP, 15:1 gearmotor from Oriental. The great thing about it is the 20 mm distance of the output shaft centerline to the edge of the gearmotor. I'm trying to do away with a belt drive, so the 20 mm dimension allows me the clearance to do that. The next biggest motor I find has 30 mm from the shaft centerline to edge of case and that's way too much. The problem is, my existing machine uses a 1/8 HP motor, so I would feel more comfortable with a little more power. Maybe someone knows of a source for longer gearmotors.

RE: small, high torque motor
My wage as head of the electrical department was less than $4.00 an hour. Mill down-time in excess of 20 minutes per shift was reckoned at $50.00 per hour.
All I ever heard: A week or so later, my supervisor said;
"I kind of wish that you hadn't changed that motor."
But they beefed up the conveyor and left the motor.
