Analysis of wind loads in piping system
Analysis of wind loads in piping system
(OP)
Hi,
In several stress criteria that I have read, it is common practice in different project to take wind load into consideration for lines NPS above 20" located at elevation higher than 10m.
ASCE 7 doesn't mention of it clearly, and I need to know how support this information.
If someone could help me I will appreciate it a lot
Thank you very much

RE: Analysis of wind loads in piping system
Limits above which wind is considered depend mainly on plant location and site exposure. Above 20" seems way too large a size to me, but excluding wind load on pipe below 10m is common in a conjested area such as a refinery unit.
You should check out a few sizes and think about how the wind load might affect rack spans for example.
