exporting parasolid files for virtual gibb

exporting parasolid files for virtual gibb

One of the machine shops we work with uses Virtual Gibb CAM software and does not like the way the models I create come into Virtual Gibb. Circular holes come in as 2 halve cylinders. I am sorry I don't have any other specific reasons why he doesn't like the way the models import into his software. If anyone has any experience or advice on ways to improve exported models to Virtual Gibb I would appreciate it.

RE: exporting parasolid files for virtual gibb

The 2 half cylinders is just the way Pro/E defines their holes.
Why can't your machine shop take the native Pro/E file? Gibbs CAM supports the import of those files.

Supported File Formats in GibbsCAM 2010, v9.5:
•ACIS-SAT
•AutoCAD DXF/DWG
•Autodesk Inventor
•Autodesk RealDWG
•CATIA V4/V5
•Creo Elements/PRO
•IGES
•KeyCreator
•Parasolid
•Rhinoceros
•Solid Edge
•Solids Exchange built on Granite
•SolidWorks
•STEP AP203/AP214
•STL
•UGS/NX
•VDA-FS

If you are exporting to protect IP rights, then you might try STEP or IGES over Parasolid. I don't understand why you would use Parasolid anyway as it is a totally proprietary format of Siemens/PLM. I know it is open and licensed, but it is still a Siemens/PLM product.

Thanks for the response.
I have been providing him with parasolids becuase that is what he requiested. I believe his software is an older edition, but the next time I speak with him I will suggest we switch to using .STEP or .IGES.
