Stacked Pressure Vessel Support Design
Stacked Pressure Vessel Support Design
(OP)
I have two horizontal pressure vessels to be stacked together. The upper vessels sits on the upper saddle of lower vessel. The local stess on the shell becomes excessive during operating condition. I have come up with few solutions such as increasing the shell thickness of the lower vessel section, or having wider saddle so as to cover the lower vessel from all around. Can anybody advise the proper way to do it? I would much appreciate your help.

RE: Stacked Pressure Vessel Support Design
Full diameter pads can also be used, if the supports cannot go that wide.
Usually less expensive to do this with the supports than to increase the bottom shell thickness, though that can be an option, depending.

Mike
RE: Stacked Pressure Vessel Support Design
Thank you for your response. Full diameter pad will certainly be cheapest solution, since I already have 264 degree covered with pad. Could you please give me a direction to some reference (book, article) for such cacluations.
