Help, I want to learn API & VBA!

Help, I want to learn API & VBA!

Help, I want to learn API & VBA!

(OP)
I bought VBA for Dummies 3rd ed.
I'm trying to work through it, but having a rough time.
I think I need to know some API to get this.

My re-seller has a class, but it's only a "one-day".
I think I'd prefer something more in-depth that I can "take home" - like a book or WWW page.

Please give me a source to learn API - assume no prior knowlege.

Check out http://www.nhcad.com
Under SolidWorks API Tutorials click Macros/Examples then see Example 7.  Then write yourself a Visual Basic 6 program to link the data you type in and SolidWorks.
Also check out http://solidworktip.tripod.com/api/macro_basics.htm#tip3 this is another good source for Custom Properties Tutorial.
There are several sites on the Internet. Whatever you learn about Visual Basic 6, you will use for other ideas.
Start with a small API program, get it to work then build on that program.  Do not give up, the time you spend learning SolidWorks API will save 100's of hours entering in data.
Then there is the www.solidworks.com/ site
Also the http://www.d-digest.com/soliddigitaldigest/SDDArchives.html site is good.
You can sign up for the Free Weekly Newsletter for SolidWorks Users at http://www.d-digest.com/soliddigitaldigest/Sign-upForm.html
Check out http://solidworktip.tripod.com There are a lot of pop-ups with this one.
Another one is http://www.cpuandsimplepdm.com/
Look into http://www.mvps.org/vbnet/

RE: Help, I want to learn API & VBA!

Dear Bradley,

I am planning to teach myself SolidWorks API with Visual C++?  I did not get any book up to now. The websites you give above is about VB, can you give me some websites which is about VC++, please?

Thank you very much.

Simon

Simon,
I do not have any referance to C++ API.
Sorry

There are plenty of VB and C++ samples on the SolidWorks website. You need subscription support to access the Model Library, but it may be a good place to start.
