Need flow rate calculation for telescoping valve

Need flow rate calculation for telescoping valve

(OP)
We have a 24 inch telescoiping valve with a maximum head differential of 3'-3". I would like to find a calculation or chart that We can use to estimate the flow rate at various differentials.

RE: Need flow rate calculation for telescoping valve

You probably need to get that from the manufacturer, or post who the manufacturer is so that others will know what to provide.

The manufacturer of the telescoping valve(s) is Whipps. I could not locate a flow chart on their web site.

RE: Need flow rate calculation for telescoping valve

There is no simple chart for something like that.

You will have to estimate the flow using the orifice equation with assumptions on pipe size, etc.

RE: Need flow rate calculation for telescoping valve

If you cannot get a flowchart from the manufacturer, you can estimate flow as a weir for low heads and an orifice for higher heads.

E&S pond designers use a riser pipe for spillways. There is a good explanation in Section 13.6.10 (pg 41 in the link). It may give a procedure you can use.

The sticking point will be the transition between the flow regimes. It is not well defined so you will have to use your best judgement there.
