Column Bolts
Column Bolts
(OP)
Hi there.
I am looking for advice on how to fix column bolts that project above column base plates too far. Spec asks for 150mm max. and bolts in question project upto 200mm.
The bolt only has a certain amount of thread on it so it currently has 6 / 7 washers on it beneath the nut.
The client has noticed and is asking how we can rectify this?
I know the bolt can be re- threaded all the way down and cut but surely this must affect the structural integrity of the bolt?
Thank-you

RE: Column Bolts
There isn't much information from you to go on but the only thing I can see if the length of a threaded rod is cut down then the elongation of the rod for a given load is effected but that only applys to the overall length of the rod within the joint configuration, its also not good practice to have six or seven washers in a joint. See this site although it does talk about slip critical joints:-
