13.8KV, 60 Hz generator

13.8KV, 60 Hz generator

13.8KV, 60 Hz generator

(OP)
I saw diesel power plant barges which are rated 13.8Kv, 60Hz. If the barge will be moved to other countries with 50 Hz frequency, can it be used still? Does the rated power output of the generator rise or drops?

Hope you can share your technical comments, thanks.

RE: 13.8KV, 60 Hz generator

The diesel engine must run slower in the ratio of 50/60. Some controls and protection settings may need to be changed as well as the speed. Overspeed trip and Under Frequency Roll Off will have to changed for 50 Hz.

the power output of the generator will not decrease? at what ratio?

RE: 13.8KV, 60 Hz generator

To keep V/Hz on the generator the same it will be a 11.5 kV, 50 Hz generator.  Since power = Volts x Amps and the amp capability of the generator hasn't changed MVA capability will be 5/6.
