Reidential/rural bridge design

Reidential/rural bridge design

Reidential/rural bridge design

(OP)
Mechanical Engineer has been asked to assist a co-worker/neighbor in his desire to design a replacement for a 25' residential/rural bridge. His old bridge crossed a waterway and was washed away in a hurricane related flood. Please provide best advice for new bridge design which will occasionally carry considerable vehicular traffic.

It also makes the suggestion, perhaps not strongly enough, that you retain a local P.E. who is familiar with all phases of bridge construction and the paperwork requirements that are unique to your area.

And don't forget you may have to meet the fire dept weight loads or even AASHTO

Check with local building officials.

Or a fully loaded 10 yard concrete truck.
Or a local PUD emergency truck.
