Jacket Closing Ring UA - 104

Jacket Closing Ring UA - 104

Jacket Closing Ring UA - 104

(OP)
Hello,
I'm designing a conventional jacket to ASME VIII, Div 1 and want to calculate the jacket closing ring thinkness. I've looked at App 9-5 and i think this is the correct section to be looking.
I have checked a heat transfer book and this refers to Para UA-104 (ASME Code).

I cannot find this is Div 1, does anyone know where i should be looking?

regards
Nec

RE: Jacket Closing Ring UA - 104

Why would you bother to find UA-104 when you are doing a mechanical design of a standard jacketed pressure vessel in accordance with ASME VIII Div 1, Appx 9? There is no ASME code paragraph identified as UA-104, perhaps it is a printing error or reading error.
Cheers,
gr2vessels

RE: Jacket Closing Ring UA - 104

Way back a long time ago, Sec VIII, Div 1 paragraphs were designated UA-whatever. I am talking A LONG TIME ago.

Clareok, you are correct about Appendix 9, I don't know how you might match up the UA-104 reference to Appendix 9.

Regards,

Mike

Geez, SnTMan, I'm happy that I'm not old enough to remember that...but you memory is still good!

RE: Jacket Closing Ring UA - 104

gr2vessels, you misunderstand, but thanks for the compliment. I can still remember everything I haven't forgotten:)

I have not been in the business long enough to have experienced the UA- times directly, but you see it in older references (and they are pretty much ALL older) such as Taylor Forge Bulletin 502 for example, and the OP's book obviously.

I have actually seen, once, a Sec VIII, Div 1 that would fit in your back pocket. The whole thing.

Regards,

Mike
