Environmental Protection to Silencers

(OP)
Ours is a commercial multistoried building where MS silencers for all of the DG Sets (total 3 nos) are installed ouside on the terrace of the building under exposure of open environment. the problem is that these get corroded quite frequently being in the open area. Getting these Aluminium painted has remain uneffected since these don't last one month. WIll anybody tell be a cost effective solution.

what about guniting (a process in which cement powder is sprayed with high pressure and speed) on to the silencer outer surface. will it solve my problem.

Kindly advise suggestions, books, references, websites, practices whatever.

Regards

RISHI KUMAR SINGH

RE: Environmental Protection to Silencers

the silencers usually are exposed to very high temp
we used hi-temperature zinc based paint.
previously the silencer was cleaned to white metal SSPC6 and a primer applied (also high temp).
hope this helps.

For the longer term, you may need consider exposed components fabricated of something like corrosion-resistant 316 alloy or cupronickel.
