convert multiple parts to single dxf for water/laser cutting

Hello,

I've designed a frame using SW2007. In Solidworks, I've got an assambly, which consists of several plates (parts), which are slotted togheter. I'd like to produce this frame using water or lasercutting.

Therefore, I'd like to have a file (.dxf format) with all the seperate plates (parts) laid out in one plane, which can be loaded into the cutting machine so the machine can cut all the parts of the frame from a single plate.

Is there a quick and easy way to put my parts into this dxf file?

Thanks, Mike

Yes.  Place your assembly into a Drawing, then Save As a DXF file.  You probably want hidden lines removed for a cleaner DXF file.

Thanks for the answer.

When I put the assembly into a drawing I have a 3D picture, while I want a 2D picture (think of flatpack furniture: I don't want the finished cupboard (3D), but all the sides, shelves etc. laid out in one plane (2D), so I can cut it out).

Cheers, Mike

Then make a drawing with the parts instead of the assy.

Insert > Drawing View > Model

Ah, that does the trick! Thanks all!
