Max Separator Size for Offshore Facility

Max Separator Size for Offshore Facility

Max Separator Size for Offshore Facility

(OP)
For a new offshore platform, preliminary 1st stage separator (three phase horizontal for gas/oil/water separation) sizing suggests that dimensions of length = 18 m (seam to seam) with diameter = 6 m are required.

Is it feasible to install such a big separator offshore?  The size is so big due to water handling requirements being > 250,000 bbl/d (BS&W > 90%).

Thanks.

RE: Max Separator Size for Offshore Facility

I dont think 18m would be the larget ever - i think there are larger in the North Sea e.g.

But it would be a large separator.

Best regards

Morten

RE: Max Separator Size for Offshore Facility

with due respect to the requirements as per your define production handling. I think that  is fair enough unless you're expecting a huge amount of sludge and scale issues.

RE: Max Separator Size for Offshore Facility

You will have to ask the structural engineers and layout experts what the implications are. That size separator could increase the deck and jacket size beyond current expectations.

RE: Max Separator Size for Offshore Facility

Why is the separator so large? For slug volume or for separation? If for separation, there are a number of ways to potentially reduce the size.

For enough money, you can put anything offshore.
