Acid Resistant Plastic Sheet Material

Acid Resistant Plastic Sheet Material

Acid Resistant Plastic Sheet Material

(OP)
Hello, first time user here.

I am currently designing a Sulphuric Acid Tank (98%), which is located inside an Acid Plant building. In case of a pinhole leak, which could squirt over the containment wall and hit an operator, I need to provide a "splash guard". I have envisioned a plastic curtain hanging from the top of tank, but do not know which type of plastic to apply. The concept would be similar to the curtain you see for walk-in refrigerators, with multiple overlapping strips of plastic. It will need to be able to resist the acid, withstand a max temperature of 200 F, and (of course) I am looking for the most cost effective solution.

If you have any suggestions, or know of a good supplier to contact, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

RE: Acid Resistant Plastic Sheet Material

200F is a bit marginal, but PVC which is the plastic mostly if not always used for the clear flexible plastic strips used in walk through refrigerator and A/C warehouse doors.

PVC is good for sulphuric acid.

Your problem will be a clear flexible plastic that can withstand 200F.

Regards
Pat

RE: Acid Resistant Plastic Sheet Material

Sure, we used to use PVC for hot sulfuric acid baths for stripping photoresist in our semiconductor fab, back in the wild and woolly days...

You might want to check with someone like: http://www.cleanroomspecialists.com/products/hoods.html
or http://www.lmairtech.com/products_fume_hoods.htm
or any similar company, of which there should be tons.

RE: Acid Resistant Plastic Sheet Material

I would look at something off the shelf like welding curtains.  They  can handle those temperatures and should be able to handle the acid.
