How to create a gage point on a taper, on a drawing?
How to create a gage point on a taper, on a drawing?
(OP)
I need to set a gauge point for a tapered shaft that is set down inside a bore. I have a section view showing the tapered shaft, and I need to create dimensions showing a point 3/8" down from a datum surface, so it can be measured on a CMM. However, I can't figure out how to dimension a nonexistant point on a taper. Is there some way to make a sketch point visable/selectable in a drawing?

Or, you can define them in the 3D model (points or sketch), and turn on the "3D wireframe" option in the view properties to be able to dimension to them.

On the drawing only side:
Create a line (dim driven).375 from Datum line, or, offset from Datum Line in view. Use the point intersection command, pick the new .375 line and the taper line. You now have a point to dim to.
I find it is a good idea to "fix" these features, they can sometimes move on you.

In a previous life with a different software I would do this with a sketch in the model, but couldn't find a way to make a sketch visible here. Ended up using HGMorgans's method.
Not sure what you mean by "fix" though.
