Online Pump curve developer

Online Pump curve developer

Online Pump curve developer

We have the pump curve( Flow Vs Head & Efficiency) given by OEM.
I want the system or software, which will have the curve installed. Also which will show me the online live values of flow, head and efficiency. So that i can know, which point i m operating the pump?
Here, the input data can be taken from PLC or SCADA.

Is there any vendor who develop these solution, or readymade system...?

RE: Online Pump curve developer

I typically use a curve fitter.  Good shareware tools exist for this purpose.  CurveExpert is one.  The last pump curves I fit, though, I used a simple IPAD App called DataFit.

Centrifugal pumps are often adequately fit by the equation of a concave down parabola with vertex at zero flow and shut-off head.  From there you can use the affinity laws to give you the entire family of curves with acceptable accuracy.

Microsoft Excel spreadsheet will do the graph.

Hi SNORGY, Thank you for your reply.

Kindly elaborate, in CURVE EXPERT PROF
How to input the data, from PLC or SCADA...?

RE: Online Pump curve developer

Tell SCADA to write a text file and Excel to read it.

RE: Online Pump curve developer

Nesamani1983,
I should have read your post more carefully.  So, you want to input flow and capacity directly from SCADA and then build your own pump curve from it?
BigInch's suggestion would work.
Me, I would have read the data from the OEM curve, fit an equation to it, and programmed the equation.

Hi SNORGY,

In your idea, we have to input the flow & head to develop the curve using that CURVE EXPRT. am i right...?

Hi BigInch, can i get the curve using PLC data...? if so, how..?

RE: Online Pump curve developer

I don't think the plc would have the curve data, only the set point and the pressure or flow readings going into it.  SCADA would know about the curve, if it has a hydraulic simulator attached. Otherwise it could be just a dumb scada that just reports data points.  What you got?

You must know the pump curve, so draw those in Excel and tap the current operating point signals from either the PLC or SCADA, then show them on the same Excel graph as your pump curve.  Don't forget to add current suction head to the curve.

RE: Online Pump curve developer

I typically generate an equation for a best-fit curve in excel (I pick whichever curve fit best represents the pump curve in the operating band) and copy that equation into whatever code.
