Steel plate encroachment on rolled member fillet

Steel plate encroachment on rolled member fillet

Steel plate encroachment on rolled member fillet

(OP)
I thought I once saw an AISC or other detail, specification, not sure... that indicated how much a steel connecting plate could encroach onto the fillet of a rolled shape.  Seemed like there was an acceptable limit to that distance.

Anyone know where that is indicated, detailed or specified?
I can't seem to find it.
Thanks in advance.

13th edition Steel Construction Manual, page 10-7.  It's also in previous editions.

Welding it is the hard bit!

RE: Steel plate encroachment on rolled member fillet

oh, for welding, you must also be careful about welding in the "k area" of heavy rolled wide flange shapes.
