ASME Section 1 and A358 Cl.1 304H Pipe
ASME Section 1 and A358 Cl.1 304H Pipe
(OP)
Does anyone know of a code case, where SA358 Cl.1 304H pipe was used in a project that required ASME Section 1 certification? I bought pipe that is SA358 Cl.1 but I needed it capable of being used in a section 1 application, and I am against a deadline now. It is my undestanding that Section One of the ASME Code does not allow A/SA358 Cl.1 pipe at all.

Just my 2 cents.

As you can see :
1) in ASME section 1, PG-5 to PG-10, SA-358 specification is absent;
2) in ASME Section 2 Part A Table ED-1, SA-358 is not allowed for ASME 1 .
3)In ASME section 2 Part D Table 1A, SA-358 is not allowed for ASME 1 .
4)In ASME section 2 Part D Table 1A, SA-358 is not allowed for ASME 8 Division 1.

ATsampalas already have answered to your question.
Regarding Code Case, I think, it was use of austenitic material for boiler external piping falling under ASME Section I administrative jurisdiction but assigned to ASME B31-1 technical responsibility.
In plain language you can't use this material to make boiler's proper, but you can use it to built piping for drain, vent, instruments etc till first valve.
