Minimum Rebar in Masonry Sound Wall

Minimum Rebar in Masonry Sound Wall

Minimum Rebar in Masonry Sound Wall

(OP)
Hello all,

I've been asked to design a free-standing 8" block (fully grouted) sound wall.  It is several hundred feet long with 16" x 16" pilasters at 50' intervals, and a height of 10'.

My question is about rebar.  What are the minimum reinforcement requirements (o.c. spacing) for the vertical and horizontal bars for the wall and the pilasters?  I can't seem to find the relevant section in the ACI 530.  I've calculated wind loads based on the ASCE 7 section for signs and free-standing walls but am aware that there will be minimum requirements.

I'm helping a friend here-I primarily work with wood framed shear walls for residential projects and am not very familiar with the masonry code.

Any help and in particular code reference sections would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

RE: Minimum Rebar in Masonry Sound Wall

Assuming no seismic requirements, I think you will find the vertical reinforcing limits are something like 6 times the wall thickness or 72". But no bar area minimums like you have in concrete.
