Curing conditions - EPDM

Curing conditions - EPDM

Curing conditions - EPDM

(OP)
Hi All,

Is there a limit to the temperature EPDM should be cured at?
Would the max temp change depending on the method of manufacture (compression, injection or extrusion (hot air and microwave))?
Is the max temperature more related to the breakdown of any sulphur cross links rather than the polymer?

Thanks

Elastomatt

RE: Curing conditions - EPDM

I've seen EPDM compounds cured at temperatures of up to 240 deg C (hot air tunnel).  Normal moulding is usually about 190 - 200 deg C.  EPDM is slow curing so high temperatures are used to give good states of cure in short time scales (up to about 15mins), otherwise it would be very expensive to produce parts.

RE: Curing conditions - EPDM

I have an issue with epdm semi foam dual cavity extrusion. During production runs one of the cavity goes down in size, it runs fine for a while and then one of the cavity on the die goes down on size, we have seeing varying head pressure.
1) is this happening due to starving extruder head if so then why the 2nd profile is not small?
2)Or is this b/c of flow balancing is not same on both cavities?
could anybody answer that?

I agree with cloa.  A new subject needs a new thread.
