Advantages 64 bit NX over 32 bit NX

Advantages 64 bit NX over 32 bit NX

Is there any difference between 32 bit and 64 bit NX (not OS). I have a 64 bit machine, but a 32 bit NX installed in it. Should we go for a 64 bit version of NX? We have 32 bit machines as well as 64 bit machines, where the parts created will be opened/worked in either of the machines, are there any known issues by using such mixed environment? Is there any performance advantage that we get if we use a 64 bit NX, instead of 32 bit NX on a 64 bit machine.

BTW we are using NX 7.5

RE: Advantages 64 bit NX over 32 bit NX

64 bit NX lets you use as much RAM as your system has. If you have 64bit systems with only 4Gb then your crippling the OS & NX. You want to have at least 6Gb preferably 8Gb or more.

In terms of NX there are some things that aren't supported on the 64bit version. Search through the release notes for "NX applications unsupported on specific platforms". That will list what I'm referring to.

The main reason though to use NX64 bit is to allow more RAm to be used. We find that customers who are using the 64bit version don't see the out of memory errors they used to in the past. Especially noticeable on assemblies or when generating CAM toolpaths.

RE: Advantages 64 bit NX over 32 bit NX

The only 'compatibility' issue which could possibly be encountered between files created on a 64-bit version of NX versus a 32-bit version is that it's technically possible that you could have a part file which has so many records that while it could be easily opened on a 64-bit system, it might not be possible to open it using a 32-bit version of NX, but that would be a very rare situation, but possible.
