8"-18.4# I.B.-----steel beam, 1950
(OP)
Working off of 1950 drawings. A roof steel beam is marked as "8"-18.4# I.B". I don't have a copy of the historical shapes in my office and a look thru AISC website did not produce any productive results.
Would anyone know if this beam is same as W8x18 and what grade steel would it be?
Thanks,

thanks, that makes sense. Any idea what would have been the grade for S & W shapes in 1950?

Your link mentions "A6" being used in early 1900's....is that supposed to be A7?
