MT on temporary attachments

MT on temporary attachments

MT on temporary attachments

(OP)
Hi !

I have a question concerning MT on temporary attachments.  If we look at art.7.2.3.5, it says that we only have to MT areas where temporary attachments have been removed on plate materials from group 4, 4A, 5 and 6.  So, if I have a plate from group 3, I wouldn't need to perform MT in this area.  Is my thinking right here, or there is another article that says otherwise ?  If I have some bracket clips I need to remove on a 260W plate, do I need to proceed with an MT inspection or not ? I guess with this article in hand only an appropriate visual inspection is acceptable....

RE: MT on temporary attachments

Correct,Ganoli, it means what is says. Nothing more or less.  So MT is not mandatory on your material.

Doesn't mean that you cannot MT areas you think are suspect due to cold-weather welding, or poor quality welding.  Further testing is always allowed, if the Owner pays for it.

RE: MT on temporary attachments

MT on the removal of all attachments is a standard specification requirement by most Clients.  Therefore, you may want to concur with your contract documents to ensure that it can be waived per the art. listed above.
