Populating an attribute from a Windows system enviornment variable

(OP)
I have a dwt that I am trying to set up for my user community.  I want the dwt to reside on a server somewhere where they will have read only access, I have the titleblock information set up with attributes and instead of each user having to enter there name in the Drawn By field with each drawing, is there a way to have the attribute automatically populate with the users name if the users name is in an enviornment variable of the OS?   Where can I find good documentation on attributes and what you can do with them?
