"nudging" parts before contact

"nudging" parts before contact

"nudging" parts before contact

(OP)
Dear all,

im having trouble when putting parts together before contact and wonder if anyone out there can help! The idea of "nudging" them together, using displacemente BC has been mentioned here but i can't make it work!

I'm working in A/Standard. I have 2 parts, one rigid and one non-rigid. After few steps I need to put them in contact. As the position of the nodes of the non-rigid is part of previous simulations, its unknown when I create the .cae.

In the "getting closer" step I prescribe a small random displacement for the rigid part and 0 displacements for the non-rigid. But silly Abaqus just makes the rigid penetrate de non rigid!

Ive also tried with a small force on the rigid and 0 displacements on the non rigid but i get an pivotal error something.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Thanks so much in advance!
Carolina

RE: "nudging" parts before contact

hello carolina000
I think  your simulation is an indentation or confined, unconfined compression tissue, Regardless, to solve the problem of contact in these cases, there are two tests
1 - used interference fit to avoid  penteration (module interaction -> interaction manger -> for each contact -> selected in the step)
in this case you obliged to see job diagnostics for the exact value of Overclosure.
2-applies depalcements in BC instead of force to minimize the singularities.

RE: "nudging" parts before contact

Do you have contact defined?  Abaqus will allow parts to pass right through each other if no contact is defined.  I would also turn on nonlinear geometry.  I hope this helps.
